INSURANCE
All our cars have fully comprehensive A1 insurance (code 120 FOR CAR RENTAL) including Personal Accident Insurance.
If you have an accident with another vehicle and the accident is caused by the driver of the other vehicle (and this is verified by the insurance assessor, the police and we have the other driver's contact details) then you do not lose your deposit. HOWEVER if you or a named driver causes an accident or if the car is damaged on your rental and we have to make an insurance claim, then you will be charged 5,000 Baht per accident. If the damage is minor and can be repaired for less than 5,000 Baht we will not involve the insurance company and we will only charge for the actual cost of the repair plus a 500 Baht admin fee.
Regarding chipped and broken windscreens and damaged tires. These items are NOT covered free of charge by our insurance policy. If we make a claim for a broken windscreen or a damaged tire our insurance company charges us 5,000 Baht which is the insurance excess.
To protect your 5,000 Baht deposit against charges for a chipped or broken windscreen and tire damage costs just 300 Baht per rental. This 300 Baht insurance is entirely optional, but if you do not pay for this insurance and you get a chipped or broken windscreen or a damaged tire you will be charged as follows:
Chipped windscreen, small chip no cracks = 1,200 Baht for repair.
Chipped windscreen with cracks extending out from the chip = 5,000 Baht to replace the windscreen. No exceptions.
Damaged tire = cost of replacement tire which is approximately 2,000 Baht for a standard car tire and 3-4,000 Baht for a large SUV tire.
To recap. We do not charge for salvage and towage costs or loss of income while the car is off the road being repaired. There is no extra charge if the car is stolen. Everything is covered by our insurance with a 5,000 Baht deductible. If you want to insure against windscreen and tire damage and protect your 5,000 Baht deposit against windscreen and tire damage charges, the cost is just 200 Baht per rental.
Insurance Indemnities
The hirer and any authorised drivers are indemnified as follows:
Third Party: Bodily injury or death Baht 1,000,000 per person max Baht 10,000,000 per accident. Property damage Baht 2,500,000
Personal Accident (PAI): 1 driver and 4 passengers Baht 100,000 per person
Accident Medical Expenses: 1 driver and 4 passengers Baht 100,000 per person
Fire and Theft: Value of car
PLEASE NOTE
Many people who rent out cars in Hua Hin DO NOT have commercial insurance for CAR RENTAL (which costs twice as much as private first class non commercial insurance). Many cars for rent are privately owned by Thais who rent them out to help pay their monthly finance payments. Sometimes these cars are rented by middle men or brokers who are not the owners of the cars.
If you rent a car, WITHOUT commercial car insurance (code 120) and you have an accident, the insurance company will most likely refuse to pay the claim especially if they know the car has been rented or hired. If this happens you will be held responsible for all costs and consequences of driving a car without valid insurance. If you injure someone, kill a motorcyclist, or cause damage to property you personally will be held liable and forced to pay (not the owner of the car). If you can not pay, the police will put you in jail until you do ! This is fact not fiction and it happens frequently.
Many people who rent out cars without commercial car hire insurance tell their customers "if you have an accident just say you are my friend and you borrowed the car". This is committing FRAUD and insurance companies are not stupid. If you rent a car from a Thai or another European and you have an accident, the insurance company will ask you to prove your relationship with the person you BORROWED the car from. They will want to see old photographs, correspondence etc. Why should the insurance company pay a claim if they do not have to ?
Also unscrupulous people who rent out cars will hold you responsible for towing costs, salvage costs and loss of income if you have an accident. It is in your interest to check the insurance policy of any car you are renting. It is not worth saving a few hundred Baht per day or a few thousand Baht per month on a car that is not insured for car hire.
Please take a look at a proper car rental insurance policy so you know what to look for.
